9th Annual Parade & Festival for the United Nations International Day of Peace
Honoka'a, Big Island of Hawaii hosts the premiere Peace Day event in the State of Hawai'i, and the only event of its kind worldwide, a Parade and Festival demonstrating unity in support of peace, compassion and awareness of interdependence.
Peace Day Parade! Saturday, Sept. 26, 4 p.m., Mamane Street in Honokaa. The signature Peace Day event, when Mamane Street will close for the "moving stage" of marching bands, taiko drummers, hula, bon dancers, cirque performers and multicultural music and entertainment.
Peace Day Festival in the Street. Saturday, Sept. 26 5 p.m.– 7:30 p.m. along Mamane Street. A large and entertaining festival for all ages, with food booths, silent auction, taiko drummers, magic, community bon dancing and great live music. DJ Nubaui will cap off the Festival with dance music for everyone, from old school classic soul to rock & roll, hip hop and high energy. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Student Peace Poster Contest
Students and teachers from around the globe will be urged to express their own interpretation of this years Peace Poster Contest theme: The Golden Chain of Love. Cash and other prizes will be awarded for various age divisions, plus Best of Show. Click here for Instructions and Entry Forms.

Peace Poster Gallery Display Reception
On Friday, September 26, C&J Woods will host a reception and display of winning and other select Peace Poster Contest entries from previous years, 5-7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Various Mamane Street storefronts will also be exhibiting Peace Poster Contest entries from years past. Music by the New Dharma Band and Red Eye Vibes.

Peace Films Double Feature at Honokaʻa Peoples Theater
Wednesday, September 23, 7 p.m. Free, with donations welcome.
“Traditions & Family Values: A Blueprint For Our Community” is a 43-minute documentary about long time residents of Hamakua, produced by people from the Paʻauilo, Kalopa Mauka Community Association. DVDs of this film will be available in the theater lobby.
“Peaceful Warrior” is a feature film based on a true story about a college gymnast, Dan Millman, at U.C. Berkeley. He had a life changing motorcycle accident and then a spiritual awakening via a late night guru /auto mechanic named Socrates. Millman was not supposed to walk but went on to full recovery and a championship gymnastics career. The guru, Socrates is played by Nick Nolte. An inspiring film, especially for young people.
Day of Mindfulness
Mindfulness: The Everyday Path of Peace, Health and Wellbeing - A One-Day Silent Meditation Retreat with Gavin Harrison. Sunday, September 27, 2015, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Honoka‘a Hongwanji Buddhist Temple Social Hall. Pre-registration Deadline: Friday, September 18. Cost is $30 including a vegetarian lunch. Read for Peace
Monday, September 21, sponsored by Friends of the Honokaa Library.4 p.m. at Hamakua Youth Center, "If Kids Ran the World" by Leo and Diane Dillon will be read to students and given to area preschools by friends of Honoka'a Library.
5 p.m. at Honoka'a Library. Selected book, "I Am Malala," tells the story of Malala Yousafzai, the 18-year-old woman who was wounded in school by the Taliban, and became the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize winner.
