Pakalana Street and Mamane Street, Honokaa HIDistance: 5 KM (3.1 Miles)
Prizes: $100 fastest runners (male, female); $50 best Peace costume
Entry Fee: $ 15 (Registration fee includes Peace Day Parade T shirt). High school cross-country teams special terms and conditions apply.
5th Annual Parade & Festival for the United Nations International Day of Peace
Honokaa, Hawaii hosts the premiere Peace Day event in the State of Hawaii, and the only event of its kind worldwide, a parade and festival demonstrating unity in support of peace, compassion and awareness of interdependence. This year the festival starts at 10 AM and the parade will step off at 11 AM on Sunday, September 18, 2011. Hundreds of participants from over 30 groups will perform or exhibit in a unique parade, described as a moving stage. The festival which follows will include entertainment and over 40 vendors and exhibitors.

Student Peace Poster Contest
Students and teachers from around the globe will be urged to express their own interpretation of this years Peace Poster Contest theme: Peace means . . . . Cash and other prizes will be awarded for various age divisions, plus Best of Show. This year, teachers will also be receiving rewards. Instructions and Entry Forms coming soon.

"Read for Peace" planned by Friends of Honokaa Library. Details coming soon. Open house and programs to encourage students and families to Read for Peace." Children's craft activity will be provided.
"Peace Poster Contest"
The Peace Poster Contest is a great way to get students and teachers to think about peace. Prizes will be awarded in four grade groups. Cash prizes for 1st-3rd place in all categories, plus Overall Winner receives a night at luxurious Waianuhea Bed and Breakfast with their parents. Details and entry forms here:
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18
10:00 am Peace Day Festival begins at Honokaa Sports Complex. Numerous food booths, crafts and community groups, live entertainment onstage.
11:00 am The Parade! Stepping off from Honoka'a High School, along Mamane Street and up to the County Sports Complex. Various stops and performances at narrator stands along the route.
12:00 noon TO 4 pm -- Peace Day Festival continues at Honokaa Sports Complex. Numerous food booths, crafts and community groups, live entertainment onstage, ringing of the Peace Bell and release of doves. Large silent auction to benefit the Peace Committee.
